GHCU employees Liz Tran and Robert King celebrate shredding success!
It’s a beautiful, sunny May Day out there–if you see this blog today, take a trip down to our Lake Union branch at 310 Westlake Ave N for free espresso until 3 pm and a free cookie between 11 and 1!

Shred-a-thon Success
Thanks to everyone who turned out for our amazing shred-a-thon event on April 25! A postcard announcement and brief mention in the Seattle Times netted us a huge crowd; we were busy from 9 am until 2 pm with constant traffic.

We were on track to fill up our shred truck before noon, and we’d like to extend a huge THANK YOU to Shred-it, Document Destroyers, who called in a second truck and saved the day!

All in all, we shredded up around 16 tons (yes, tons) of paper, which, according to the Shred-it employee, saved 216 trees. The paper was shredded and pulped and will be reincarnated, we understand, as paper towels.

In answer to many many people’s question: Yes, we will do this again! There is an obvious need, and it’s a great way for us to meet people in the communities we serve. Keep an eye on this blog and on our main website, ghcu.org, for announcements of next year’s Shred-a-thon!
